It all started out with a normal tweeted link for Wikipedia donations. For the immense respect i have for Wikipedia, I immediately went over to the link and donated a very meagre amount. I also impulsively tweeted the link. A couple of minutes later I had a tweet poped on the timeline indicating that a former colleague had also donated. Quite sure that my tweet had triggered his donation I decided to post it on facebook just so that word would spread. What followed was quite overwhelming. People where persuaded by the link I shared and it not only triggered a lot of donations followed by a comment “done”, but also a lot of shares of the link with a thank you comment. This got me thinking of how wonderful the internet has made the world and the amount of potential online communities have to make a real impact on humanity. I am not bragging here that my sharing of a link triggered so many donations. But it did get the word across and it gave us all a sense of belonging to one. A common cause for the betterment of all of us.
My Dell device had come with a pre installed version of Ubuntu 11.10, after a upgrade to long term support Ubuntu 12.04, my WIFI and blue tooth stopped working all together. After trying failing for many times I had almost given up on WIFI all together, until i stumbled up on a Ask Ubuntu answer by the awesome user izx, who has modified some drives to make the device work. So here are the steps to install the modified drivers, open a new terminal and fire away.
1. Remove the default Broadcom drivers.
sudo apt-get remove bcmwl-kernel-source
2. Install the prerequisite packages.
sudo apt-get install linux-headers$(uname -r | grep -Po "\-[a-z].*")
sudo apt-get install build-essential dkms
3. Download one of the two drivers 32 bit or 64 bit
4. Install using dpkg.
sudo dpkg -i <name of the package>
5.After the install restart your machine. open a terminal and type
rfkill unblock all
You should be able to use your WIFI now cheers 🙂

A little less then a year ago I had my first trekking experience in the first week of December. The experience changed my life forever and made me realize the joy of being close to nature. A few days back after reaching Tadiyandamol I completed the list of top three peaks in Karnataka. This deserved a blog post as a mark of milestone. So here goes.
Mullayanagiri. #1 in Karnataka. Although we didnt trek there i have promised myself, i will do it someday.
Tadiandamol. #2 in Karnataka. A short one hour treak to the peak.
Kumara Parvata. #3 in Karnataka and the one where i struggled the most. will conquer this one properly. some other time
